How can I strip my painted kitchen cabinets?
I would prefer not to get new cabinets, BUT when I bought this house the previous owners had painted every kitchen cabinet and bathroom vanity by hand in white (totally sloppy). Would it be worth it to try and sand them down or just go for cabinet refacing? Thanks.

- This is a very messy, very time consuming task & may not be worth it. If the cabinets are thick, high end wood, then maybe. If they are rather cheap, there will not be much veneer left to work with once you have stripped & sanded. In between solution is to try & sand down the sloppy paint on the frame & sides & re-paint (use a sprayer to re-apply as it looks smoother) & get new doors & drawer fronts. There are paint strippers at any home DIY stores. See if there is one of those total kitchen re-do places near you & get some estimates to re-do the doors etc. Maybe cheaper in the long run & certainly faster. Hew hardware including hinges & pulls also helps a great deal. New bathroom vanities can be purchased pretty cheaply as well.
- depends mainly on 2 things quality of the cabinets and the condition of them -prepaint I would think if the previous owner threw a coat of white paint on them they weren't in good shape to begin with refinishing them is quite a task and if its worth it its worth the labor .You can always strip one and see then make your decision of whether to complete the job or reface. and a tip often times refacing/surfacing costs exceed new cabinetry be sure to do a good comparison from multiple sources
