How long would it take me to repaint kitchen cabinets, 2 walls and some other items?

I am planning to fly up to my old town and do some painting work in my house that I have been trying to sell for some time. In particular, I'd like to repaint the kitchen cabinets, paint two 10 x 8 walls, and paint my wooden railings along the staircase. The kitchen is not particularly large (about 10-12 cabinet doors). I figure I'll have about 3 days total. Can I do this in this time? Are there any techniques to paint faster (like spay, sanding machine, etc)?

  1. 3 days should be plenty as long as you have your act together. The biggest time saver of all is using an "edger" tool rather than trying to mask everything. Masking takes more time than the painting does. The edger tool is basically a square pad with a fabric material on one side. you dip the fabric material in the paint and then run it across the wall. It makes a nice clean line. the plastic pad generally has a couple of wheels on the bottom so you can butt it up against a baseboard or ceiling and slide it along. It will give you a nice line at the bottom and top of the wall. Use the edger to "cut in" your corners, the baseboards and the ceiling, then use a roller to paint the rest of the wall. Tip number 2. Spend the extra few bucks to buy premium quality paint. Sherwin Williams is excellent. Olympic is pretty good. I would steer clear of Bear. The lower end paints are generally thinner and will often (almost always) require two or three coats. The high end paints will apply more evenly and will generally cover in one coat. The extra money is definitely worth the time savings.
