How do I remove VERY old kitchen cabinets?

My house is about 75 years old. I want to remodel my kitchen and I need help undertanding how to remove my old kitchen wall cabinets. They seem to not be screwed to the wall. I can tell the back wall of the shelves is the actual kitchen wall and not part of the cabinet. Do you think there is any harm in just getting a hammer and tearing it down without knowing anything else?

  1. They are nailed it and they were built on site. You just need a good pry bar and hammer and wear leather gloves and some eye protection and tear them up.
  2. i helped my dad with a sledge hammer and he used a pry bar
  3. Even though they were built on sight I have run into times where some guy used the shelving as the wall to divide 2 rooms but the house is too young for that so that is probably not the case. Take a hammer and a prybar to remove the shelving. That is the only way to find out.
  4. Using a large pry par by a stud with small board against the plaster will help you. I admire the diligence of even those with no no experiences who tackle projects the first time!
