Are the kitchen cabinets at LOWES prestained from the store much different than custom made cabinets?

a guy gave me an estimate of 7,000 to redo my kitchen including sink and countertops. i am wondering how much different they are than the ones you just go and pick up at lowes and hang up. i really want the custom oak cabinets but 7,000 seem high on a 140,000 house i paid what the appraisal was and was built in 1975. and has popcorn ceilings the 7,000 dollar estimate was custom oak cabinets he was going to make and the solid surface countertops and solid surface sink thanks

  1. If 7 grand covers materials, labor and installation, that's cheap, real cheap.
  2. Cabinet quality at box stores is good. The cost of custom is in the labor then materials. Box store cabinets are fine. It is your money.
  3. BE CAREFUL! Make sure you get everything in writing and don't pay for the whole job until it's complete and to your satisfaction. $7000 for all new cabinets, sink and counter tops sounds a bit low. Be clear about what you expect. Does that include the plumbing for the sink? What kind of counter tops? Do you have a start date and a completion date? Please be cautious. People get ripped off home re-modelers every day of the week. Good Luck!

  5. You want the solid wood cabinets, and yes they're gonna cost more, but worth it in the end.
